Concept
This concept for a private residence in Collaroy explored the complete transformation of the existing home, shaped around the clients’ desire for a modern residence with a focus on larger living spaces, greater opportunities for entertainment and its connection to the outlook.
The clients sought a distinctly modern architectural expression, with a softer language of curves and arches, contemporary neutral finishes, stone and a more defined landscaped entry. This was expressed through a new material palette of rendered and timber clad surfaces, a central stone feature wall, curved roof planes, softened wall lines, and arched details and openings carried from the front elevation through to the rear of the home.
Internally, the concept was reconfigured around open-plan living and entertaining, with a feature staircase and void upon entry creating a stronger sense of arrival, volume and connection between levels. On the first floor, a new balcony was positioned to capture views towards towards Sydney's city skyline, with the master suite and movie room oriented around this outlook. Conceived as both a private retreat and additional entertaining area, the balcony extends the living experience outward, providing a setting to gather, take in the views and experience moments such as Sydney’s incredible New Year’s Eve fireworks.
The resulting concept brings together the clients’ aspirations for a a home with a contemporary expression, cohesive architectural language, stronger indoor–outdoor connections and a more deliberate relationship between form, landscape and outlook.
