Mortuary Railway Station comprises a porte-cochere and a sandstone pavilion building, constructed in 1868 as a receiving building for funeral parties, for transportation by rail to Rookwood Cemetery at Lidcombe.

CCG Architects Pty Ltd (CCG) has been commissioned by Rail Corporation of NSW (RailCorp) to assess the state of disrepair of Mortuary Station and have found that the building had many areas generally in poor condition. CCG spent time inspecting and assessing the current state of Mortuary.

Railway Station and found the main defects were related to termite damage to structural timbers, door framing, and joinery; impeded drainage and plumbing; water-damaged interiors; and missing or damaged roof tiles. This allowed CCG to develop an appropriate approach to undertake the repair works, whilst causing minimal disruption or damage to the heritage fabric of Mortuary Railway Station.

CCG provided a review and assessment of existing documentation in conjunction with site investigations, an identification of the extent of structural and hydraulic repairs recommended to be undertaken, and the provision of a Scope of Works for technical repairs to Mortuary Railway Station.
