Beaconsfield Terraces carefully balances heritage preservation with contemporary living. This project involved the sensitive redevelopment of three heritage-listed terraces situated on a quiet, leafy street in Beaconsfield. 

Due to their heritage status, the defining character of the historic streetscape—single-storey workers’ cottages with articulated verandahs—has been meticulously restored, ensuring the area’s heritage fabric remains intact.

To maximise development potential, we employed a "back-to-front" approach, introducing contemporary additions to the rear of the properties. This configuration amplifies housing flexibility, allowing for different stages of family living. A front and a back dwelling can be consolidated into a single large dwelling, allowing families to ‘grow-in-place’ rather than relocating to metropolitan fringe suburbs as their families grow.

The new terraces feature a striking design that contrasts with the historic façade while complementing the overall composition of the site. The contemporary extensions are defined by a robust brick façade with patterned brickwork that introduces depth and texture. This is paired with ribbed metal roof cladding, providing a modern yet timeless aesthetic. 

Carefully proportioned window openings allow natural light to flood the interiors while maintaining privacy. The juxtaposition of heritage elements with modern architectural language creates a seamless blend of old and new, ensuring the preservation of the historical character while meeting contemporary living needs.
