Concept

The Sydney Portugal Community Club, located in Marrickville in

Sydney’s Inner West, is a longstanding cultural and social hub for

the Portuguese community in Australia. Established on 6 February

1965 by Portuguese migrants, the club was originally founded in

Paddington before relocating to Rosebery and ultimately settling

in Marrickville in 1991. Over time, it has developed into a

prominent community institution that celebrates Portuguese

culture while supporting the broader multicultural community of

Sydney. The club is also closely connected to nearby Fraser Park

and the local football club Fraser Park FC, reinforcing its role as a

centre for community and sporting activity.

The proposed project seeks to replace the existing clubhouse

with a contemporary facility that better supports the club’s

evolving role. The design brief outlines a new clubhouse of

approximately 1,850 sqm, incorporating a range of flexible

community spaces including auditoriums, dining areas, cocktail

lounges, a commercial kitchen, reception and entry forecourt,

bar and lounge spaces, boardroom and executive offices, a

gaming lounge, billiards room, youth centre, and associated

amenities, as well as on-site parking for approximately 106 staff

and visitors.

The proposal aims to create a modern, adaptable venue that

strengthens the club’s presence within Marrickville while

continuing to support cultural events, community gatherings, and

social activities for future generations.
